Arielle's Good Friday Key Competency Learning Story

In Good Friday we have been setting up a restaurant for people to come and eat our delicious food that we are starting to make . We had been split in to groups. here are the group's
  • Recipe book group
  •  sign group
  • menu group
  • place mat group
  • and design group
The group's have difference role's to do as you can see

In Good Friday We use the internet to find lot's of recipes to put into our recipe book so we can take it to the menu group so they can put it on there menu and make it interesting for people to come and eat in our restaurant. e.g we put in for the main:Spinach & Ricotta cannelloni and beef and vegetable stir fry.

I have been relating to others like for example: Pela said" Arielle has been relating to others well and she has never been unkind anyone and she hasn't hurt anyone's feeling's. When someone is feeling sad in Good Friday I go up to them and say"Are you alright and what has happen?

Relating to others feels like happiness. I Like relating to other because it not only create's happiness it makes them feel like they belong, like they have freedom, here's a little keep calm quote.(Keep claim because I know somewhere there is family, love, hope and happiness that's how I will relate to other's in good Friday.

I can also relate outside of class when I'm playing basketball and netball when I'm with my family.I have been relating to my family really well and it is good to relate with your family because you can get to know your parents like for e.g You can see what there experience is like.

Here is a link to the Good Friday Recipe Book

My next step is to stay relating to others and to keep relating to my family too also get good recipe's for the recipe book and get ideas other website and recipe book's in the library

Arielle's Key Competencies learning story (Kapa haka)

 Kapa haka Learning story

I can Participate and contribute In kapa haka.
Every Thursdays I do kapa haka with my classmates when ever we do the haka We go hard out, sharp action's , pukana, and discipline every time I walk through those Doors.

I give 100% of myself to turn up to kapa haka I never miss kapa haka ( only if it's important then I miss kapa haka) but most of the time I turn up I never let my kapa haka group down. If one of the kapa haka teacher E.g like whare clear says "can you do a lead part"  I never ever say no I am always proud to say yes. I know when I do a lead part I can be a role model to the younger children in kapa haka and hope they can also get a lead part one day too.

When I first started kapa haka I didn't know the actions and what I was doing.
I tried to follow the others but I just couldn't keep up but I never gave up. My friends encouraged me and told me how to do it. After that I wasn't scared to walk though that door and be apart of kapa haka. later on I started going I had more confident in myself before from who I was. When I started kapa haka  it change who I was and who I am now

Every time One of the teachers are speaking I focus and don't let others distract me.When ever I am focusing I am learning when ever I am learning I am focusing. When I see a person distracting others, NOT focusing and doing the wrong thing I quietly tap them on the shoulder and tell them to do the right thing and sometimes I have to step up and be a roll model to show them what's right.

For E.g: I say" please listen to what the teacher is saying and please do not talk in kapa haka because that is not what we do here, sit up strange ,listen and be quiet".

First thing I do in kapa haka Is......

  • Take of my shoes off.
  • Sit down in my lines.
  • Listen to what the teacher has to say.
  • And do my best in kapa haka.

I also can help people when they don't know the action like when I did when I first started.

When we go to kapo kapo I am going to do my best and hardest like I've ever done before I might ever see you there bye for now.

Arielle's Writing Learning Story

In writing I have been learning to . . .
Use descriptive language to describe the character,
I am still learning to make my writing interesting and entertaining
I try to paint a picture inside the reader head and so the reader can understand my story.

I can use adjectives, similes , phrases, metaphors and more. .

When I am reading I get good ideas from my own book and that's one way that I can make my writing more better.

I think first before I write my story an to upgrade my ideas and plan my thinking to put in my own writing story.

In Writing we have been learning about war so our teacher Mrs Ardelle  said we had to do a conscription story about the war here is Example: As I heard knocking on the door ,it was like drum beats.  I gently walk up to the door. My hands were nervously shaking on the handle, When I open the door I see a post man standing in front of me, with his rusty old bike. He hands me a letter that came from the army. I wonder who its from as I read it, I then fall to my knees. One tear comes down and then another like a tap dripping from the sink in a bath room.

It's about how I am a mother and my only son goes to war here is an example of when we are talking together:He asked, “Mother why are you crying?” As I answer him, “Your name was drawn out of the ballot, you're going to war.” As I cried, “ Please don’t leave me I beg you, please don't leave us, me and your sister we need you, you're the only thing we have, please don't go.” Then son replied sternly to mother, ”Mother let go I'm going to be all right I promise I will come back home as soon as possible

I can also learn from other people's writing and summarise it in to my own ideas to make it better  and more exiting. The kind of writing I'm in to is diary's and sad story's.

Arielle's Reading Learning Story

In reading I have been learning to . . . . .
Find information about N.Z involvement in WW1 WW2 Vietnam war and Korean war.

I have been Researching the key information using Books in the library & school journals from our classroom to find key information about war.
I have been using the internet to find other information about WW1, WW2 ,Vietnam war & the Korean war.

My buddy and I looked through books from the library to find the information that was needed.

I can use my prior knowledge about what I already know about the war. It can get more ideas from my head and what I already know. When I am reading a really interesting book I see the picture that the author had painted in my head and I discuss it with my buddy and also get ideas from it.

I can also use the 5w's to plan out my writing Example:
What:
When:
Where:
Why:
Who:
and
How:

I had to re- read the information to know if it was the right information that I am looking for.
We had look thought articles about war and find out what the key words there were.

What I learnt from WW1: When New Zealand and Australia landed on the beach what they called Gallipoli in Turkey. The Turks were waiting for New Zealand and Australia. As soon as one person step on the beach 1000's of New Zealanders and Australian's had been shoot straight away. Some didn't even get a chance to get off the the boats. And so many lost there lives so that's why we have anzac day to commemorate the one's who died for us and who fought for us.

This is a link to a video of me reading the Journal story "Least we forget":Reading story,Explaining story

This is a level 4 book and it is a Year 8

Arielle's Maths Learning Story

In maths I have been learning to.....
use a range of strategies to solve problems like place value, partitioning, basic facts, Inverse and using my basic facts to multiply the hundreds ,tens and ones.

When I see passages on our waka I tell them to get on board and help us to steer in the right direction . If I didn't under stand I would ask a question for example: "Can you please repeat that ? " or  "why did you choose that strategy ? " I can also make connection's to what I already know to help me.

In our group we have friendly arguments if we disagree with each other. We also include others by asking them to share their ideas and explain their strategies so we all understand how to solve the problem. We always include everyone in our group when we do maths so they will not be left out.

Partitioning is like breaking up numbers into Hundreds, tens and ones colum and it is a quicker way to solve a problem.

And to finger out the answer.
